BiographyResearcher at the Internet Lab of Telefonica Research. From 2006 to 2008 I was a post-doc at the Department of Epidemiology and the Center for the Study of Complex Systems at the University of Michigan. Prior to that I was a member of the Knowledge Engineering and Learning Group (KEMLg) group in the Software Department (LSI) at the Technical University of Catalonia (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya UPC). I obtained a PhD on Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the Technical University of Catalonia in 2006. My PhD dissertation "Structure in Artificial Societies" was advised by Dr. Ramon Sangüesa and Dr. Jordi Delgado. During my PhD I did an internship at the Interuniversity Center for Social Science Theory and Methodology (ICS) at the University of Groningen (RUG) as well as at the Information Dynamics Lab at Hewlett-Packard Labs. In 2001 I earned a MSc in Computer Science at the Barcelona School of Informatics (FIB). What's new- Our paper "The Little Engine(s) that Could: Scaling Online Social Networks" made it to SIGCOMM 2010.
- Coorganizing the Social Mobile Web Workshop at the IEEE Social Computing Conference
- Porqpine is on alpha but alive. You're welcome to try it out and see how collaborative systems, social networks and p2p can be used to build a full-fledged search engine from scratch
- PC at SIGIR 2010
- PC at IDAR / SIGMOD 2010
- PC at CERI 2010
Research Interests:- Social Networks
- Dynamics in networks (epidemics, diffusion, search, trust and reputation)
- Collaborative systems (search, tagging, filtering, voting mechanisms)
- Unsupervised data-mining and clustering
- Open distributed systems (Multi-agent systems, Web services, p2p, on-line communities)
